Equal Pay Day 2025

Equal Pay Day is on April 16 in BC.

This year, it’s taken racialized women 106 more days of work to earn the same pay as white men in the previous year.

This form of inequality is known as the pay gap. The gap widens for workers who are gendered, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, trans, non-binary, older, migrants, and are caregivers.

Pay inequality has serious consequences for economic justice and well-being for racialized and gendered people. It is not just a statistical difference of a few cents, but has real impacts on physical and mental health, rippling across families and communities, with career spanning and generational consequences.

This Equal Pay Day, we’re calling the BC government to make real, systemic changes to advance economic justice and well-being.That includes changes like:

  • Higher earning exemptions for people on disability assistance
  • A living wage for all
  • Pay equity laws
  • Fairness and protection for migrants
  • Policies that value caregivers

BC has one of the biggest gender pay gaps in Canada. For far too long, gendered and racialized workers have been systemically undervalued and underpaid!

This Equal Pay Day, amplify the voices of marginalized workers who have been left out of the conversation on economic justice. #EqualPayDay #PayEquity #WageGap #BCPoli

This Equal Pay Day, call on the BC government to prioritize economic justice and well-being for ALL! Marginalized workers deserve fair pay, economic supports, and a future free from systemic discrimination!
