West Coast LEAF welcomes Miriam Esquitín as Director of Strategic Operations
West Coast LEAF is thrilled to welcome Miriam Esquitín as our Director of Strategic Operations. This newly created role marks an important moment for the organization, as we move into a phase of organizational renewal and transition.
For over 40 years, West Coast LEAF has advanced gender justice through litigation, law reform, and public legal education. Miriam will play a key role in supporting West Coast LEAF’s people and finances, helping bridge the organization’s strong legacy with its future direction. By bringing clarity, coherence, and care to the systems that sustain our work, this role will support staff and leadership to focus on impact and community accountability.
Miriam brings extensive experience in non-profit leadership, financial management, and organizational development, aligning strategy, operations, and people. She has worked across advocacy, arts, and community-based organizations, supporting teams through periods of renewal and growth. Her approach to leadership is grounded in relationship-building, transparency, and systems thinking, with a strong commitment to equity and collaboration.
“I am deeply excited to be joining West Coast LEAF at this moment,” shared Miriam. “The organization’s legacy and reach are inspiring. I look forward to contributing to the systems, relationships, and structures that support this important work with care, transparency, and a shared sense of purpose.”
Our Interim Executive Director, Shannon Daub, shared her enthusiasm, “We are delighted to welcome Miriam. She brings incredible experience and depth of knowledge to this new role, which will strengthen the organization’s foundations during a period of transition as we also search for our permanent Executive Director.”
“Miriam’s experience, thoughtfulness, and relational leadership come at a critical time, and we are confident she will be a tremendous asset for the organization’s future,” said Mélanie Power, Board Chair.
We’re so glad to welcome Miriam to the West Coast LEAF team. You can meet her and join us in advancing gender justice across British Columbia at our upcoming Equality Breakfast on March 6. Community members, partners, and supporters are also invited to connect directly with Miriam at engage@westcoastleaf.org.
