Equality Rights Library

Our legal and equality rights library includes current and historical material and information tracing human rights and equality legislation in Canada. It contains case histories, facta, biographical material and studies that apply to women’s issues, equality issues and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It also includes up-to-date materials and periodicals that are relevant to different segments of law.

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS
RELIGIOUS FREEDOMS
IMMIGRATION LAW
WORKPLACE/ECONOMIC RIGHTS
POVERTY AND ECONOMIC RIGHTS
FAMILY LAW
CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS
GENDER EQUITY

The library is organized in accordance with law library catalogue systems and can be searched through a database. It is a resource for legal and women’s studies students, as well as legal professionals, community organizations and other interested individuals. As we are constantly building our library, it is a progressive and dynamic tool with many current and potential applications for numerous groups including students, activist groups, and the legal community.

Our expertise and many years of working in the field of law, women’s rights issues and equality rights allows us to provide this unique and invaluable service. For example, when the local Status of Women Canada office closed in March of 2007, they asked us to take over their special library collection of policy and legal research on women’s rights.

In the future, we hope to participate in a new initiative that will allow our material to be searched electronically.  It is an exciting opportunity for us as it will allow people from around the province and across the country to access the unique collection we house here.

The Equality Rights Library is generously supported by Nathanson, Schachter & Thompson LLP.
