West Coast LEAF responds to funding cuts to contraceptive devices for women with disabilities

West Coast LEAF has written to Minister of Housing and Social Development Rich Coleman and Premier Gordon Campbell expressing concern about recent cuts impacting British Columbians with disabilities.

West Coast LEAF is particularly concerned about the elimination of funding for contraceptive devices for women with disabilities.

Prior to these most recent cuts, British Columbians had the equal right to make reproductive choices that best suited their circumstances, their values and their bodies. Unfortunately, the recent budget announcements have resulted in a restriction in this choice for women with disabilities who rely on disability assistance – some of BC’s most vulnerable citizens.

These cuts significantly limit the reproductive options and impact the fundamental reproductive rights and freedoms of women with disabilities.

A response was received from Minister of Housing and Social Development Rich Coleman in May 2010.

We will be following up with a further letter to the Minister which we will post at a later date.
